On August 30, 2026, the transition period established under the agreement between Passwork Europe S.L. and Passwork FZ-LLC (UAE) came to an end. From that point forward, Passwork Europe S.L. independently manages the development, maintenance, support, and security of the international version of Passwork.
Below, we explain what this means in practice for our customers and partners.
What changed after the transition ended
The purpose of the transition period was to ensure product continuity for existing customers while technology, know-how, and infrastructure were transferred. The transition was completed as planned by August 30, 2026.
As of August 30, 2026:
- Passwork Europe S.L. no longer receives source-code updates or technical knowledge transfer from Passwork FZ-LLC.
- Development, releases, and technical support of the product are managed by the Passwork Europe S.L.
- The infrastructure used by Passwork Europe S.L. to build, sign, and distribute its updates is under its administration and located within the European Union.
- Access to Passwork Europe S.L.’s development environment, signing keys, and infrastructure is controlled exclusively by Passwork Europe S.L.
For customers, all technical and operational matters are now handled by Passwork Europe S.L. in Barcelona.
Ownership of the company
Passwork is independently developed, maintained, supported, and distributed by Passwork Europe S.L., a Spanish company registered in Barcelona. The sole shareholder and CEO of the company is Alexander Muntyan, a Spanish tax resident. All information about the company's ownership and corporate structure is publicly available in the Spanish Registro Mercantil and can be verified independently.
The development team and its locations
The product is developed by a distributed team of independent contractors working under Passwork Europe S.L.'s management out of Barcelona. Key roles are based in European Union jurisdictions.
Administrative, operational, and customer-related data is processed within the European Union in accordance with GDPR requirements.
New releases
Upcoming Passwork releases are developed and prepared for release by the Passwork Europe S.L. team without reliance on source-code updates from Passwork FZ-LLC.
The release cadence is unchanged. Regular feature and security updates follow our own roadmap.
EU residency: next steps
The end of the transition period is part of a broader effort to strengthen the European jurisdiction of the product. In the coming months we will:
- complete the consolidation of the product infrastructure (build, signing, and distribution of updates, update and licensing portals, DNS, CDN) within the European Union under Passwork Europe S.L.'s administration;
- align the contractual framework with customers, contractors, and providers to a single standard consistent with GDPR and NIS2 requirements;
- expand the European presence of the team in key technical roles.
Audits and independent verification
In 2025 Passwork underwent an independent penetration test performed by HackerOne. The results confirmed the resilience of Passwork's architecture to external attacks. The observations identified were addressed and closed as part of the standard remediation process. The final report is available to customers on request as part of due diligence.
Passwork is certified to ISO/IEC 27001. The current status of the certificate is publicly available in the IAF CertSearch registry (last updated August 13, 2026). The certification covers the development, support, and operation of the product.
Over 2026–2027 we plan to:
- extend the scope of ISO/IEC 27001 to cover the new infrastructure elements consolidated as part of EU residency;
- prepare for SOC 2 Type II.
